Bhima, the most underrated Kounteya was clearly one of the greatest archers of Mahabharata but people know him only for mace fighting. Anyways let's see how many times Bhima and Karna defeated each other. I won't include those defeats of Karna where he fought with mildly against Bhima and got defeated.
1) FIRST DEFEAT OF KARNA BY HANDS OF BHIMA IN RAJSUYI YAGYA
Sabha Parva, Chapter No.27, Mahabharata CE by BORI, Dr. Bibek Debroy translation
O king! Having subjugated Jarasandha’s son
and extracted tribute from him, the powerful one marched with all of them against Karna.
The earth trembled with his fourfold army. The best of the Pandavas fought with Karna, the
destroyer of enemies. O descendant of the Bharata lineage! He vanquished Karna in battle
and brought him under his sway.
Among all Karnas, only Suta Karna was regarded as a destroyer of enemies in the entire Mahabharata so it is clear like water that it was Suta Karna who was defeated by Arjuna in Rajsuyi Yagya.
2) SECOND DEFEAT OF KARNA AT THE HANDS OF BHIMA
Drona Parva, Chapter No. 109, Mahabharata CE by BORI, Dr. Bibek Debroy translation
‘Sanjaya said, “Karna was without a chariot and was again defeated by Bhima. He ascended
another chariot and again began to pierce Pandava. They were like giant elephants, goring
each other with their tusks.
3) THIRD DEFEAT OF KARNA BY HANDS OF BHIMA
Drona Parva, Chapter No. 109, Mahabharata CE by BORI, Dr. Bibek Debroy translation
In turn, Bhima pierced the son of the suta with three arrows and used another
seven arrows, with the force of Suparna, to pierce his charioteer. O great king! Afflicted
by Bhima’s strength, Karna was agitated. The immensely illustrious one gave up the battle
and fled on his swift horses. Bhimasena stretched his bow, embellished in gold. In that battle,
the atiratha was stationed like a blazing fire.”’
4) FOURTH DEFEAT OF BHUTTA KARNA BY HANDS OF BHIMA
Karna Parva, Chapter No.34, Mahabharata CE by BORI, Dr. Bibek Debroy translation
Thus struck by Bhimasena, the son of the suta, the leader of an army, lost his
senses and sank down on the floor of his chariot. On seeing that the son of the suta had lost his senses,
the lord of Madra bore Karna, the adornment of a battle, away on the chariot. When Karna was
defeated, the large army of the sons of Dhritarashtra was driven away by Bhimasena, like an army of
the danavas by Indra.” ’
Now See the defeats of Bhima by the hands of Bhutta.
1) FIRST DEFEAT OF BHIMA AT THE HANDS OF BHUTTA
Drona Parva, Chapter No. 114, Mahabharata CE by BORI, Dr. Bibek Debroy translation
Karna used sharp arrows to sever everything that was repeatedly hurled
at him. However, remembering Kunti’s words, he did not kill him. Instead, Karna
approached him and touched him with the tip of his bow.
2) SECOND DEFEAT OF BHIMA BY HANDS OF BHUTTA
Karna Parva, Chapter No. 56, Mahabharata CE by BORI, Dr. Bibek Debroy translation
The scorcher of enemies wrathfully pierced Bhimasena with
thirty arrows and struck his charioteer with three arrows. In the twinkling of an eye, the bull among
men deprived Droupadi’s sons of their chariots and it was extraordinary. With straight-tufted arrows, he made all of them retreat.
Other than these battles nowhere they defeated each other as nowhere the words like flee, defeat, vanquish, rescue e.t.c have been used for any of them in their encounters.
Conclusion:- Bhima defeated Karna 4 times while
Bhutta defeated Bhima only 2 times.
In simple archery , Bhima was like Raja bhoj and Bhutta was like Gangu teli๐๐
