Whenever Karna fans lose a debate, They always cry that it was Lord Shiva who was using Karna for his archery practice, not Arjuna.π
But truth is that Lord Shiva was present on battlefield only for one battle, not always.
Let's see, When Prince Arjuna beheld Lord Shiva in battle, I meant we would try to see that when Lord Shiva came in battle to accompany Arjuna.
1) It is clearly written in Mahabharat that Arjuna saw Lord Shiva during the death of Drona, which means Lord Shiva was not present on battlefield before this.
BORI CE, DRONA PARVA- 173
‘Dhritarashtra asked, “O Sanjaya! WHEN the atiratha DRONA WAS KILLED THERE, what did thoseon my side and the Pandavas do next?”‘Sanjaya replied, “WHEN atiratha DRONA WAS KILLED BY PARSHATA and the KOURAVAS WERE ROUTED, DHANANJAYA, Kunti’s son, SAW(PAST TENSE) A GREAT WONDER that SIGNIFIED HIS VICTORY. O bull amongthe Bharata lineage! He went to Vyasa, who had come there
EXPLANATION:-
From the above narrative, it is clear that Someone(Lord Shiva) was helping Arjuna to rout all the Kauravas during Drona's death. So Shiva was not present in any battle other than the above battle.
2) ARJUNA TOLD VYASA THAT HE SAW A PERSON WHO WAS WALKING BEFORE HIM AND ROUTED ALL THE KAURAVAS(IN THE ABOVE BATTLE).
I saw a manadvancing in front of me. His complexion was like that of the fire. In whatever direction he advanced, with a blazing and upraised spear, in that direction, the enemy was seen to beshattered. His feet did not touch the earth and he did not hurl his spear. But because of his energy, thousands of spears were released from that spear. He is the one who routed the entire enemy, though people think I routed them. From the rear, I only pursued the soldierswhom he had scorched. O illustrious one! O great Krishna! Who was that supreme being?Tell me. He had a spear in his hand and his energy was like that of the sun.’
3) LORD VYASA ALSO ACCEPTED THAT YES LORD SHIVA WAS ADVANCING INFRONT OF YOU IN THAT BATTLE , AND IT WAS LORD SHIVA WHO DEFEATED DRONA, KARNA AND KRIPA AT THAT TIME.
LORD VYASA TO ARJUNA:-
O Partha! IN_THAT FIERCE_BATTLE, when the body hair stood up, it is he who preceded you through hisfavours. That army WAS protected by great archers and strikers like Drona, Karna and Kripa.O Partha! Who other than that great archer and god could think of countering it, even in the
mind?
EXPLANATION:-
There was a mystrious battle which happened during Drona's death. Drona, Karna and Kripa were defending their armies, And Arjuna was defending his armies, at that time Lord Shiva came in battle and destroyed all the Kauravas.
Notice the words "In that fierce battle" in the above narrative
4) LORD VYASA SAID THAT NO ONE CAN FACE LORD SHIVA IN BATTLE EVEN FOR A MOMENT BUT WE SEE THAT THERE WERE MANY BATTLES WHERE ARJUNA TOOK SOME MINUTES TO DEFEAT HIS ENEMIES, IT ITSELF PROVES THAT SHIVA WAS NOT ALWAYS PRESENT ON BATTLEFIELD.
Lord Vyasa to Arjuna:-
Narrative:- When Maheshvara strides around in that form, who can venture to stand in front of
him?
ALL THE ABOVE NARRATIVES PROVES THAT LORD SHIVA HAD COME IN BATTLE ONLY FOR ONE BATTLE
[[PART-2]]
There is one more evidance which says that Lord Shiva was present on battlefield, I want to refute that statement too.
Lord Krisna told Arjuna in Anugita that Lord Shiva was advancing infront of you but Nowhere written that he was talking about Kuru war
May be he was talking about an unknown war, where Krishna protected Arjuna, And Lord Shiva accompanied Arjuna there to slay his enemies.
Why am i saying that Lord Krishna was not referring to kuru war because after the death of Jaydratha, Lord Krishna himself accepted that Arjuna ALONE did everything in war.
BORI CE, DRONA PARVA-123
Krishna to Arjuna:-
Your valour and strength are like that ofRudra and the Destroyer. There is no one else who could have exhibited such valour in battle.O unblemished one! O scorcher of enemies! There is no one like you and YOU ACCOMPLISHED THIS #ALONE. Once the evil-minded Karna has been killed, with his followers, and you havedefeated and slain that enemy, I will praise you even more.’
EXPLANATION:- From the above narrative it is clear that no one was helping Arjuna in war. He did not have any external support.
Now don't say Karna fans that Lord Krishna was lying here.ππ
Moreover, On the 17th day of Kuru war Sanjaya also accepted in actual event that Arjuna ALONE was fighting in war.
Horsemen, O monarch, wandering hither and thither, were seen to fall down deprived of life by the shafts of Partha. At that time the might of Arjuna's arms was seen. (So great was that might) that #ALONE, in that battle, he vanquished horsemen and elephants and car-warriors (that had been assailing him from every side).
BORI CE, KARNA PARVA-59
Thousands of them were seen, like the cities of the gandharvas. O great king!Horse riders ran hither and thither. They were seen there, brought down by Partha’s arrows. At thattime, Pandava showed the strength of his arms. #SINGLE-HANDEDLY, he defeated the riders, the elephantsand the chariots in the battle.
[[Part-3]]-
Even if we accept that Lord Krishna was referring to Kuru war in Anugita, then also it does not prove that Lord Shiva was always present in Kuru War, it means he was reffering to 15th day of Kuru war, where Lord Shiva had accompanied Arjuna.
LAST BUT NOT LEAST:-
There are countless proofs in mahabharat , which prove that the later event does not matter.
For example:- If we read Gandharvas war in actual event then Karna had ran away from Gandharvas by lifting his both legs but the cross reference says that Gandharvas had captured Karna too
See itππ
BORI CE, Udhyog parva-136
Bhisma said to Duryodhana:-
Narr:- Karna and the others and you yourself with yourarmour and chariot, were freed at the time of the expedition of the cattle. This is sufficient proof.
EXPLANATION:- In the above narrative, we can see that the cross reference does not match with the actual event hence we can not take later event seriously.
And Shiva's presence on the 15th day of Kuru war is written in later event, not in actual event.
Conclusion:- Lord Shiva was never present in Kuru war.

Well he was fighting...Vyasa clearly says it...he helped Arjuna to fight and win all those duels...
ReplyDeleteWhere did Vyasa say that Shiva was present in all the battles?π
DeleteI mean if he can fight for Arjuna on day 15, then obviously he might have helped him in killing those 7 aksounhi Sena on day 14 and rest day. Cause it's impossible for a warrior like Arjuna to kill Jaydrath and 7 aksounhi Sena in a single day. Also Arjuna had the support of lord Hanuman.

DeleteHehe...lord Hanuman himself said he would be present at Arjuna's chariot and will help him:
DeleteO brave one! O mighty-armed one! When you rush into the enemy’s battle formations, armed with arrows and spears, and utter a roar like that of a lion, I will add my own roars to that of yours. Seated on Vijaya’s flagstaff,711 I will let loose terrible roars that will rob the enemies of their lives.” Having said this, he disappeared
KMG EDITION OF MAHABHARATA
Remaining on the flagstaff of Arjuna's car will I emit fierce shouts that will damp the energy of thy foes. Thereby ye will slay them easily. Having said this unto Pandu's son, and also pointed him out the way. Hanuman vanished at that spot.

DeleteLord Hanumana clearly said that he would help Arjuna by emitting terrible roars, capable of robbing the enemies of their lives. So according to a section of fanatics, Lord Hanumana was just lying to Bhima and he was never present on Arjuna's chariot. So better to ignore them and move on.
ReplyDeleteOther claims that Arjuna never let Lord Hanuman to help him :), this one is really funny. Each and every task performed by gods have some reasons behind it. Lord Hanuman was very much aware of the fact, whether Arjuna needed him or not. If there was no need of him, he would never had seated on Arjuna's chariot.
So it will be better if you would stop making such claims. There's no doubt that Arjuna was a great warrior, but he does had some shortcomings and so different gods had to help him (since he was on the side of Dharma).
Epic clearly hints that Lord Hanuman was always there on Arjuna's chariot.
Virata Parva (Bori CE)
With the supreme of monkeys on his banner, he set out in a northern direction.
Virata Parva (Bori CE)
The one with the foremost of monkeys on his banner suddenly returned.
Who is this supreme or foremost among mokeys?
Virata Parva (Bori CE)
‘The brave Bhishma shot eight arrows at Partha’s banner. They were extremely swift and hissed like serpents. Those blazing and feathered arrows struck the banner of Pandu’s son and struck the monkey and other beings that were stationed on the top of the standard.
Which monkey is stationed on Arjuna's chariot, resisting the arrows of Bhishma?
From Kurukshetra (Bori CE)
O venerable one! O king! With another broad-headed arrow, he pierced the large standard that had been fashioned by Vishvakarma, with the best of apes astride it. At this, the ape let out a large and fierce roar. On hearing this, your army was terrified. O king! That beautiful army became immobile. It was like Chitraratha’s grove, full of many flowers.488 O best of the Kuru lineage! Having regained their senses...
Who is this ape whose single roar was capable enough to rob the senses of Arjuna's enemies. Was that just a celestial banner?
I accept that celestial standard of Arjuna was created by Vishwakarma, but its illusions were just to hide Lord Hanuman present there.
After the war, Lord Krishna asked Arjuna to step out of the chariot first. As soon as Hanumanji left, the chariot caught fire and Arjuna was amazed to see this.
KMG EDITION OF MAHABHARATA
After the high-souled Lord of all creatures had dismounted from that car, the celestial Ape that topped the mantle of Arjuna's vehicle, disappeared there and then. The top of the vehicle, which had before been burnt by Drona and Karna with their celestial weapons, quickly blazed forth to ashes,".

DeleteWell.. I've copied my own answer which I gave on Quora ..and secondly you don't have much to say except hahahahaπ
DeleteYou crack me upπ
DeleteBORI CE (BIBEK DEBROY'S TRANSLATED VERSION)
ReplyDeleteIt is for your own good.’ Dhananjaya, Pandu’s brave son, did as he had been asked. Thereafter, the intelligent Krishna discarded the reins of the horses and got down from the chariot that belonged to the wielder of Gandiva. The extremely great-souled one, the lord of all beings, descended. The celestial ape, stationed on the standard of the wielder of Gandiva, disappeared. Earlier, it58 had been burnt by the divine weapons of the maharathas, Drona & Karna.
Even Yudhistra accepted that there was no one except Lord Krishna who was capable to resist the Brahamsatras of Karna & Drona.
‘O crusher of enemies! Who other than you, and Purandara, the wielder of the vajra himself, could have escaped from the brahmastras of Drona and Karna? It is through your many favours that we have triumphed in this battle and Partha never had to retreat, even from the greatest of battles.
So it was all due to Lord Hanuman's grace that Arjuna was able to resist the deadly Brahmastras of Karna & Drona.
Jai Bajrangbali ! Jai Shree Krishna !
Hahaha where is it written that Lord Hanumana was resisting the brahmastras of kuru warriors? Hahahaha
